Snowbird season,
Miami style.
Miami’s local car shipping team. We work with local carriers who run your exact route, from New York, New Jersey, Boston or Chicago down to Brickell, Miami Beach, Coral Gables or Aventura, and connect you directly. No load boards, no broker markup. Here’s how to time snowbird season, pick the right trailer and get your car into (and out of) a Miami high-rise without a hitch.
Two Seasons, Two Rushes
Miami snowbird car shipping runs on a calendar. From October through December, cars come south from the Northeast and Midwest as seasonal residents settle in for the winter. From March through May, the same cars head back north. Between those windows, the lanes are quieter and pickup dates are usually easier to get.
That rhythm matters because carriers fill their trailers by direction. In the fall, southbound spots on I-95 go fast while northbound space is easier to find. In spring it flips. If you can be flexible by even a few days at either end of the season, you give the carrier on your lane more room to fit you in.
The I-95 and Midwest Lanes Into Miami
Most of our snowbird customers come down one of two corridors. The East Coast lanes follow I-95 the whole way. The Midwest lanes drop through the middle of the country and join Florida’s interstates for the final run into South Florida.
Each of these lanes runs both ways, so the carrier who brings your car down in November can often bring it back in April. See every lane with distances and timing on our Miami routes page, or jump straight to the snowbird lanes we run every season.
Booking Lead Time in Peak Weeks
Peak demand changes two things: how quickly a spot opens on your lane and what that spot costs. Rates usually rise in the busiest weeks of each season, and the weeks around Thanksgiving and the holidays tend to be tight heading south.
Heading south (Oct–Dec): request your quote a few weeks before you want the car picked up, and give us a pickup window instead of a single day.
Heading north (Mar–May): book before the end-of-season wave, when everyone in your building is trying to leave the same week.
Either way: a pickup window of a few days, rather than a single date, gives the carrier on your lane the most room to fit you in.
Open vs. Enclosed for Snowbirds
The standard choice for daily drivers. Open trailers make up most of the capacity on the I-95 lanes, so they’re usually easier to book in peak weeks and cost less.
For classics, exotics, fresh paint or anything you’d rather keep out of road grit and weather. There’s less of it on each lane, so book enclosed earlier.
Not sure which one fits? Our open vs. enclosed guide goes through the trade-offs in detail.
Prep Before Pickup
- Wash it and photograph it from every angle the day before. You’ll do a walk-around with the driver and sign the Bill of Lading at pickup.
- Keep fuel around a quarter tank. That’s plenty for loading and unloading.
- Clear out personal items and remove toll transponders so you aren’t charged for tolls on the way down.
- Disable alarms, or leave clear instructions for the driver.
- Leave a working key and fob, plus the gate or garage access codes for both ends.

Condo and High-Rise Pickup in Miami
Most snowbird deliveries don’t go to a driveway. They go to a tower. Full-size car carriers are long and tall, so they can’t pull into a parking garage or under a porte-cochère. A smooth handoff takes a little planning with your building.
Brickell & Downtown
Streets are busy and curb space is scarce. Ask building management about loading-dock hours and whether the car can be brought down to the dock or a nearby side street at a set time. Many buildings want notice in advance.
Miami Beach
Narrow streets, tight parking rules and seasonal traffic mean the driver may need to meet you at a wider street or an easier-to-reach lot close by. Plan that spot ahead of time and keep your phone handy on delivery day.
Coral Gables
Tree-lined residential streets and low branches can keep a big rig off your block. A nearby main road is often the easiest meeting point, and the last stretch is a short drive in your own car.
Aventura
Gated towers and guard-house entries are common. Put the carrier’s arrival on the guest list, share the gate procedure, and confirm whether your association needs paperwork from the carrier before the truck shows up.
If your association asks for a certificate of insurance or a set delivery window, tell us when you book. We’ll pass it to the carrier on your lane so the request is handled before pickup day, not at the gate.

Miami Snowbird Car Shipping FAQ
When should I book snowbird car shipping to Miami?
Plan a few weeks ahead of your pickup date for the October–December run south, and earlier if you need enclosed transport or a specific week around the holidays. A flexible pickup window helps the most.
What does snowbird car shipping to Miami cost?
On Auto Shipping Near Me’s route pages (checked Oct 28, 2026), New York → Miami starts at $965 for open transport and $1,450 enclosed, Boston → Miami at $1,060 open and Chicago → Miami at $1,020 open. These are starting estimates, not quotes; peak snowbird weeks usually cost more.
Can the truck pick up at my condo in Brickell or Miami Beach?
Yes, door-to-door, with the driver getting as close to your door as the truck can safely reach. At high-rises that usually means the loading dock or a nearby street, so check your building’s rules and share them when you book.
